Details, Details.....!!

He that is faithful in that which is least
is faithful also in much.
Luke 16:10
****
So many times you have heard it said, "Details, details.... pay attention to the details!!!"

If you were -paying attention, you would have noticed I was speaking to myself as well as the negligent one. Minding the smallest of the smallest details doesn't come naturally for me any more than it came naturally to any one of my Kids when they were small. Probably, every mother has to teach her children to pay close attention to details for it goes against inclination to exercise the mind and body with patience to attend with diligence to all the particulars of every aspect of life. We just "don't have time!" one hears the cry that goes up time and again... "Later.  I'll take care of it later. . ."

Have you ever noticed that "Later" never seems to arrive?

Here's why faithful diligence in the minutia is so important:
By unfaithfulness in even the smallest duties,
man robs his Maker of the service
which is His due.
This unfaithfulness reacts upon himself. . . . . .
Because he is not guided by right principles in little things,
he fails to obey God in the great matters which he regards as his special work.
The defects cherished in dealing with life’s minor details
pass into more important affairs.
He acts on the principles to which he has accustomed himself.
Thus actions repeated form habits,
habits form character,
and by the character our destiny for time and for eternity is decided.
Only
by faithfulness in the little things
can the soul be trained to act with fidelity under larger responsibilities.
{COL 356.2}
As earnestly desiring your success in all that you put forth your hand to do, I would urge you to read the chapter in the book Christ Object Lessons called The One Talent. You will find it on page 355. As you read you will be reminded that Jesus paid attention to detail in everything even though He was often pressed by time and crowds of people all demanding something from Him, His mind and body taxed to the utmost. Yet He took notice of the smallest touch... He addressed the seemingly most insignificant need.... He folded His own grave clothes ~and in our minds we think, "WHO CARES about folding those strips of cloth?  He just conquered the greatest foe that ever lived! This is the most important victory ever! Why should His reunion with His father have to wait ten minutes while He made sure everything was neat and orderly in a dark cave?"

Indeed, WHY? Because simply, this is the character of God and it is the secret to success. We want to truly know Jesus, we want to be like Him, we want our characters to be formed after His character and so,

We must follow His example of faithful, conscientious attention
to the little things
This is the secret of success in every line of Christian effort and influence.
{COL 358.

This will show in our handwriting, in how we do the dishes and leave the kitchen, in the way we keep our purse and car and laundry, how carefully we wash the vegetables from the garden, how promptly we send a thank you note for a kindness given us, in the way we plan our meals for health and nutrition, how we take notes so we don't forget, how we put things back, in how we remember what makes other people comfortable and happy. In short, in EVERYTHING we do will show just how close we value the example Christ has set for us.

When I was a girl I was sent to go help at the health food store because there was more work than one man could handle on his own and they were short on adults. I was probably 12. I remember scrubbing dusty brown shelves. I was getting weary of the job. The shelves seemed to stretch on endlessly.... and
I had to remove the boxes and bags and cans of grocery items before washing each section, then organize everything back into it's proper place and it was taking days.  Finally in utter fatigue and boredom I looked at the tall man running the till and asked, " Since NOBODY ever sees the back of these shelves, why can't I just scrub the front of them?"

His face stretched into a huge grin as he responded, "The customers may never see the back of the shelves, but the angels do see, and they watch how you do your work."

I had no comeback for that and did a lot of thinking on those long, long rows of shelves as I scrubbed all the way to the back.

I therefore beseech to you WORK worthy of the calling....

Worthy of the Calling

To my dear beautiful and treasured daughters,

Your father and I feel blessed beyond measure to claim you as our girls. How were we chosen to be your parents? Caring for you as babies, and raising you up through childhood and into the teen years should have taken a bit longer, I think.... or at least been a been a little harder. Where has the time gone? It seems like yesterday you were figuring out addition and subtraction together, learning how to make an apple pie, cuddling bunnies on your little homeschool desk as you "worked", and proudly playing twinkles on your musical instruments in trio. It seems to you like it took a lot longer for you to grow up than it seems to me. You'll just have to trust me on that one. Perhaps someday you will be privileged to be a mother and then you'll get what I'm saying.

You are all at a new stage in life -all three of you. Like it or not, you are not little girls anymore. You are facing the final stages of preparation for your life work and calling. Before you lies the maze of  educational options to the furthering of your ministry ideals . . . and then somewhere along the way there will be new relationships and the establishing of homes and families of your own.

For Vanessa, your calling came early. You have been steadfast and focused on the path you were shown. I believe the Lord will give you the desires of your heart as you press on. Already you face the work world each day and experience the attitudes and ambitions and the kindnesses, and the discourtesies displayed among humankind. Of such is this life. Be the light bearer. Be the gentle reminder of Jesus to the patients and those you work with. Don't let your servant's heart become tarnished by the dross of this world's mindset. Constantly look to Christ who refines and fashions to be Worthy of His Calling on your life.

Brianna, the path is not so clear cut. You haven't be given a "vision" of a distinct calling as yet..... but you have been blessed with an abundance of talent, a pile of determination and drive, a heart full of compassion and joy.  God has carefully laid out a plan for your ministry in life just as surely as He planned your sister's and supplied you with everything you need to get there. There should be plenty of joy in the journey of finding out what that plan is. Remain focused on your Leader... He only can make you Worthy of the Calling.

As for you, Christina, you are not as far along as your sisters and there's not so much to figure out but to remain faithful to the daily duties at hand. With homeschooling over, you face a whole new world of choices, and decisions, temptations and attractions. I am thankful for you. You have a bright and organized mind. You are goal oriented. You have strong leadership capabilities. You have high ambitions. You are also quick to see needs and fulfill them. You have been my right arm those last incredibly busy and chaotic months of caring for foster children. What could I say differently to you than what I have said to your older siblings? Keep your eye fixed on the One who is growing you to be Worthy of Your Calling.

Time rushes on faster and faster and I have so much yet to say to you before you leave our nest.... I feared I would not have the time to say it all. And so, I found this little place to write. . . We are at a new stage in life. We shall savor the moments. I thought to read a book with you on what it means to be entering in on the threshold of adulthood......... and I couldn't find one that spoke of what is on my heart. Mostly, I noticed, the whole emphasis of the books out there is on becoming a wife and mother.... and there is certainly no higher calling in God's perfect timing.  We will talk of those preparations of the heart somewhere along the way, but there are a lot of other things to share, too. Be prepared and don't forget, WALK worthy of the Calling with which you were Called!

I am leaving this blog open to you girls to post thoughts on our discussion. You know the password. Maybe your Dad will surprise you sometime, too.

LOVE You Much,
Mom
